Reintroducing a

sense of discovery

Discovering a beautiful item, finding another person with similar interests or stumbling onto a whole new kind of process or material you never new existed are all experiences within physical craft marketplaces that inspire creative thought.

Each discovery reveals a new way of doing something. And this was something very valuable in contributing to the growth of creative spaces and communities.

Conventional

search mechanisms

A big difference we noticed when comparing the online and offline experience of craft marketplaces was that both sellers and buyers alike pointed out that they visited craft markets to be inspired. However, browsing the marketplace online usually involved a more intentional search.

Due to the nature of how products are sorted online, the user is barely left any room to make new discoveries while browsing. Hover over the examples below to have a look!

“I always know what I’m looking for when I search for something online. What makes craft marketplaces so inspiring is that you never know what you might find at every turn."

A missing sense of discovery

We wanted to bring that sense of discovery and surprise back. Because these were things that inspired visitors. So we created a new way to search and discover the platform.

Thought starter

How might we introduce more ways for users to make new discoveries on a creative platform?
